Professor David Chan, Director of the Behavioural Science Institute at SMU, shared that if by 2030, Singaporeans and new citizens were to make up just over half of the total population as proposed in the white paper population projection, the pace of social integration would be critical in determining subjective well-being. He suggested that social integration be a key driver and determinant of the pace and numbers of foreigners to bring in. He added that psychological experience is much more important than the physical density. He was also of the opinion that an efficient transportation network could make a real difference.
