In a commentary, the writer quoted SMU Behavioural Sciences Institute Director Professor David Chan, who said that the tendency for people not speaking up is partly due to their fear of looking bad and failing. Prof Chan also said that many who speak up do so only after much internal struggle and self encouragement.
