SMU Professor David Chan is first Asian to be conferred SIOP's Raymond Katzell Award for his outstanding contributions in using scientific research to solve social issues

The Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology (SIOP) has conferred the Raymond Katzell Award to SMU Professor of Psychology David Chan, who is also Director of the SMU Behavioural Sciences Initiative, for his outstanding contributions in using scientific research to address social issues and make a difference to people and society. Prof Chan is the first Singaporean and the first Asian to receive this top award. Prof Chan said, “It is always special to receive an award or be recognised by your peers. It also takes on special significance to be the first Singaporean and first Asian to receive this prestigious award, which is about bringing science to the general public. I hope this helps send the signal that Singapore and Singaporeans can make meaningful impact in various ways, be it locally or globally. I also hope that those of us who are scientists or professionals will continue to be guided by our goal to help solve practical problems and make a positive difference to society and people’s lives.”
