Louis Tay, William C. Byham Associate Professor in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Purdue University, USA, presented a webinar titled “Bias, Fairness, and Validity in Graduate Admissions ”. Given the current controversy of many schools and departments considering the removal of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) from their graduate admission processes to enhance equity and diversity in higher education, he discussed the available research evidence on validity, bias, and fairness associated with six major sources of information that are widely used in graduate admission assessment.

Tsai Ming Hong, Associate Professor of Psychology at SMU, presented a webinar titled “How do we express conflicts beneficially? Perspectives from social perception and emotion”. Using empirical findings, he discussed whether and how conflict can reduce and instead of increase work-related stress, identified the practical implications of the findings, and provided several suggestions on how conflict can be handled to reduce work-related stress.

Insights and Applications from Behavioural Sciences
In this section on Insights and Applications from Behavioural Sciences, we feature a commentary by Professor David Chan (SMU Behavioural Sciences Initiative Director and Lee Kong Chian Professor of Psychology), in which he discussed the repeal of Section 377A of the Penal Code and proposed adopting five practical approaches for a more constructive discussion on the emotive issue.
