The BSI Conference 2013 on "Population Matters: Purpose, Priorities and Perceptions", held on 7th March at Orchard Hotel, was attended by 250 participants from academia and the public, private and people sectors. Summaries of the presentations and highlights of the conference are provided below.

David Wagner, Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour & Human Resources at SMU presented a seminar titled “Workplace Emotional Labour: More Than Meets The Eye”. He discussed the implications, benefits and costs of organisationally required emotional display rules at work.

Xi Zou, Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour at London Business School presented a seminar titled “The Grand Duality: Who Sees Competition Within Friendship, and How Do They Perform At Work?”. She discussed how both competition and friendship can co-exist in interpersonal relations at the workplace.

Christopher Nye, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Bowling Green State University presented a seminar titled “Selecting Better Employees in the 21st Century: Broadening the Range of Potential Predictors”. He discussed the relevance of assessing vocational interests in the personnel selection process.
