Applications from Behavioural Sciences

The haze from the forest fires in Indonesia has affected all of us in Singapore. As we cope with the crisis, we can draw applications from the behavioural sciences. In this issue of our BSI newsletter, we feature an article on public reactions and coping with the haze crisis. The commentary, contributed by BSI Director Professor David Chan, was published in The Straits Times on 26 June 2013. 

Announcements

BSI Director Professor David Chan has been awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Fellowship for Research Excellence, in recognition for his outstanding research contributions. Separately, Professor Chan has been appointed a member of the Public Hygiene Council, which is a national council formed to lead and coordinate efforts from the public, private and people sectors to promote cleanliness and hygiene in Singapore.

Assistant Professor Evelyn Au has been re-appointed as Deputy Director (Academic Affairs) of BSI with effect from 1 July 2013.

Research

BSI has recently supported a research project on leader humility, led by SMU Associate Professor Gary Greguras (left) and Visiting Adjunct Faculty Michael Daniels (right). Two papers from the research have been accepted for presentation at the Academy of Management Conference to be held at Florida in August 2013.

     

BSI has recently completed research projects in collaboration with the National Security Coordination Secretariat at the Prime Minister's Office, the National Environment Agency, and the Civil Service College. BSI has started a research project in collaboration with the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Insights from Behavioural Sciences
