In this regular section on Insights from Behavioural Sciences, we feature an invited commentary by Professor David Chan. The article explained how a confirmatory bias influences the way people treat information that contradicts their existing beliefs, positions or actions and related the issues to managing disagreements between the Government and citizens or advocacy groups. The article was published in The Straits Times on 16 November 2013.

Applications from Behavioural Sciences
In this regular section on Applications from Behavioural Sciences, we feature an invited commentary by Professor David Chan. The article examined how the negative emotions that dominated 2013 have led to some positive outcomes and suggested that, moving forward, Singapore should focus on three shared values (integrity, fairness, social harmony) and three guiding principles (rule of law, accountability, people-centricity). The article was published in The Straits Times on 28 December 2013.
