The following are some BSI outreach activities that took place in Jan-Mar 2016.

Grace Park, Assistant Professor of Psychology, SMU, presented a seminar titled “An Information Processing Model of Team Innovation: Implication of Team Structure, Inter-Team Competition and Member Personality”. She discussed the impact that team characteristics and information processing dynamics may have on team innovation.

Liu Pan, Research Fellow of BSI, SMU, presented a seminar titled “Predicting Life Satisfaction from Online Emotional Expressions: Culture Matters”. He discussed how culture may play a role in emotional expression at different cultural levels and along different cultural dimensions.

 

Yvonne Tan, Psychology PhD Candidate, SMU, presented a seminar titled “Gender-Professional Identity Integration of Women in Business: Measurement Antecedents and Outcomes”. She discussed the construct of gender-professional identity integration and its implications in negotiations and other work-relevant contexts.

Lee Huey Woon, Psychology PhD Candidate, SMU, presented a seminar titled “Acquaintances Can Detect Honesty-Humility and Avoid Those Perceived as Low on Honesty-Humility”. She discussed the issues involved in the detection and perception of honesty-humility in people.

Abhijeet K. Vadera, Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour & Human Resources, SMU, presented a seminar titled “’Helping’ is Not the Same as ‘Not Harming’: Investigating the Decision-Making Processes for Constructive versus Destructive Behaviours”. He discussed the decision-making processes involved in moral issues and related them to constructive and destructive behaviours.

Tsai Ming-Hong, Assistant Professor of Psychology, SMU, presented a seminar titled “How Can We Achieve Effective Group Processes?”. He discussed how cooperation and creativity at the group level can contribute to effective group processes and group functioning.

BSI Research Fellow Dr Liu Pan completed two research studies and they have been accepted for presentation at the following international conferences:

In this regular section on Insights from Behavioural Sciences, we feature an invited commentary by Professor David Chan who explained why adaptive leaders must not just be clever, but more importantly, they must be wise. He suggested several learning points for leaders to be both clever and wise. The article was published in The Straits Times on 6 February 2016. [LINK]

In this regular section on Applications from Behavioural Sciences, we feature a special edition of Talking Point, a Channel NewsAsia live studio programme, where Professor David Chan participated in a panel discussion examining the issues and implications relating to the proposed changes to Singapore's political systems including the Elected Presidency, the Non-Constituency Members of Parliament (NCMP) Scheme and the Group Representation Constituency (GRC) method for election.
