Professor David Chan has been conferred the prestigious award of Fellow status by both the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) and the American Psychological Association Division of Personality and Social Psychology (APA Division 8). In addition to these two latest Fellow awards, Professor Chan is an Elected Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology (SIOP), Association for Psychological Science (APS), American Psychological Association (APA) and the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP). He is now the first scientist to receive Elected Fellow status from all these six major international organisations for psychologists. [Link to press release]

Professor Chan is reappointed as a member of the National Council on Problem Gambling with effect from 1 September 2017.
Building Inclusive and Resilient Communities
In an invited media interview, SMU Behavioural Sciences Institute Director Professor David Chan discussed the concept of inclusive communities and how it relates to issues such as social resilience, trust and the use of social media. [Link to video in YouTube]

Applications from Behavioural Sciences
In this regular section on Applications from Behavioural Sciences, we feature an invited commentary in which Professor David Chan explained the human reaction to threats by pursuing "fight or flight" and the differences in adaptive responses between physical and non-physical threats. He illustrated the issues with the types of threat in terrorism versus in disputes. The article was published in The Straits Times on 15 July 2017. [Link]
