Ng Chee Meng urges Singaporeans to embrace diversity in a pluralistic society

In a panel discussion at the Singapore Perspectives conference, Acting Minister Ng Chee Meng said that some difficult social issues such as those concerning lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) are best left to be determined by society and each generation of people as values evolve over time. SMU Behavioural Sciences Institute Director Professor David Chan said that while there are differences in society over LGBT or other sensitive issues, they could be discussed within the common understanding of upholding shared societal values such as social harmony and respect for human dignity.
